STM Spa are constantly updating and improving the range offered so today’s post is just a quick product update. Following a requirement for a pre-stage gearbox on a lifting breakwater STM Spa has developed 2 new sizes of Worm Gearboxes to further increase the current range offered. The current range offers centre distances from 28mm up to 180mm and this has been further complemented by the 2 new sizes offering 215mm and 250mm centres.
These gearboxes are designed, developed and manufactured ‘in house’ ensuring the continuing quality everyone has come to expect from the STM range. The 2 new sizes are manufactured in cast iron and allows for the application of heavy loads.
These gearboxes lend themselves very well to many applications including – but not exclusively – Lifting Gearboxes, Winch Gearboxes, Mixer Gearboxes and for manipulator drums on Welding Machines. Below is a little sneaky peek…..

Planetary Gearbox Bevel Input
Just a quick post today to keep you all up to date on a new option we have on our Planetary Gearbox range. Although we already have right angle input options on our fantastic Planetary Gearbox range by using Worm Gearbox, Bevel Helical Gearbox or Skew Gearbox on the input we now have a dedicated, intergrated option available. This option as seen in the pictures below allows a right angle input on your Planetary Gearbox – for applications where space may be an issue – being completely intergrated into the Gearbox. Get in touch if this is of interest to you. Dont forget we can offer interchange ability with most other Planetary Gearbox manufacturers so even if this is for an existing application there is a good chance we can offer you a cost saving or at least an alternative to your existing supplier.

Here at STM UK we are constantly reminded of how lucky we are to be selling the wonderful product ranges offered to us through STM Spa and GSM Spa and today is no exception. This morning we despatched a set of Heavy Duty Gearboxes to be used on plastic extrusion machines which itself is nothing out of the ordinary. However GSM Spa not only manufacture the Heavy Duty Gearbox but are also good enough to manufacture the gearbox with the Thrust Bearing assembly for the extrusion process. Unlike with some Gearbox suppliers where you have to buy the gearbox and then fit your own bearing assembly ours come ready assembled.

In the picture you can see the Gearboxes lined up and ready for shipping. These units were delivered to our customer on a dedicated lorry ready for assembly onto their machines.
GSM Spa also offer further Gearboxes for specific applications such as Gearboxes for Lifting and for Bucket Elevators. These are of course units from the standard Bevel Helical and Parallel Shaft range which have been upgraded to suit the applications involved.
We must not forget all the other products we have which include Worm Gearboxes, Helical In-line Gearboxes, Planetary Gearboxes and so much more. Follow this link to check out the product pages on our site and be amazed at the range we offer.
In the picture below you can see us loading one of the Gearboxes onto the trailer. To try and put it into perspective this unit weighed in at over a tonne and overhung a double euro pallet.

This, however, is not the biggest Gearbox we offer, in fact it is only a baby. Again from the GSM range we offer a Gearbox – namely an RXO3/832 which weighs in at over 13 tonnes with a 350mm output, a bit of a beast.

We are currently going through a period of investment throughout the company and one of the first places we are addressing is the works. We are looking into a load of new equipment including new test panels, air pressure test machines, oil dispensing units, lifting equipment and benches due to our expansion and movement into higher end, heavy duty and high tech markets. We are now supplying various industries with Planetary Gearboxes, Bevel Helical Gearboxes and Parallel Shaft Gearboxes up to 1.2million nm.
We hope to have all of this completed by the turn of the year but in the meantime thought it would be good to treat the works guys to some new works kit. Check ‘em out in the picture below…..model agencies keep your hands off, these lot are not available for your winter catalogue campaign!! Ok so now for the roll call, from left to right we have Danny – Stores Supervisor, Mark, Karl and Dave – our excellent Fitters and last but not least Tom, our stores apprentice. Tom started with us a couple of months ago and is doing fantastically…..well done Tom, keep it up!!
I will also take this opportunity to mention the other apprentice who has started with us at the same time as Tom. Stephen has spent a couple of months out in the works getting to grips with what we do and how the works and fitting department operate and has started – this very morning – in the business development department assisting Jamie, Chris and Martin with their day to day work. Stephen is soon to commence on his customer service apprenticeship so you may well be speaking to him on the phone….please be gentle with him!!
I will do my very best to get some more news articles up, I have been rather slack recently but with all the other things going on I have struggled to find time…..note to self…must make time!!

As promised in my last blog post and, admittedly, a little later than hoped here is a little round-up of my visit last week to Italy. As those of you following our Twitter feed – @STMUK_Team – will know I spent a week with STM Spa and some associated companies, GSM Spa and Assembliago P.M.
Assembliago P.M. is a company used by STM Spa – as suggested by the name – that assembles Gearboxes from components. Products assembled there include Planetary Gearboxes from the EX range, Worm Gearboxes, Bevel Helical Gearboxes, Parallel Shaft Gearboxes and a host of other products. I spent most of my time there with a man named Giacomo who has been assembling Gearboxes for STM Spa for over 30 years. What really stood out for me was the attention to detail he showed in each part of the assembly process and is an example for anyone doing this kind of job.
I also spent time in STM Spa and was, as always, impressed with the amount of things happening and the investment in people and technology. Each time I visit there are new machines and processes in place which compounds the company ethos to constantly improve the range of product they offer – this all makes us very proud to be selling this fantastic range here in the UK and gives us even more confidence – if it was needed - in the products we sell.
As already mentioned I also spent some time having a look around GSM Spa – the Heavy Duty Gearbox arm of STM Team – which always blows me away. The size of some of the gearboxes being produced is fascinating but the most impressive thing for me is the quality systems which are worked to with all the latest 3D measuring instruments and the checks made on the components being manufactured. I have a lot of interesting things to tell you about GSM Spa and think it deserves its very own blog post so keep your eyes peeled over the next week for more information on this exciting range of products.
I really do not think I can write about my trip to Italy without mentioning the food, I think 1 word sums it up perfectly – WOW!!! Best pizza ever?
